UGANDA TO TARGET EAST AFRICAN TOURISTS TO IMPROVE TOURISM
Uganda is set to target East African tourists as a way of improving and increasing numbers of tourist arrivals. This revelation comes as the country is set to exhibit at the forthcoming Magical Kenya Travel Show from 2nd to 4th October 2019 at KICC in Nairobi.
According to communication by officials from Uganda Tourism Board, Uganda will exhibit among others golf tourism, adventure as well as the country’s vibrant nightlife under the theme “Uganda: The Adventure Capital of the region. Some of the riveting and jaw-dropping adventures to undertake in Uganda are zip-lining, white water rafting, sport fishing, kayaking, horseback rides, Bungee jumping, hiking and mountaineering among others. Uganda Tourism Board, the Agency responsible for marketing Uganda’s tourism will have to take advantage of the trade show in Kenya and tap into the different tour operators as well as tourists from neighboring Kenya and across the globe.
Of all the African countries, Kenya accounts for the highest number of tourists to Uganda and totaling to almost 30% of total arrivals into this country last year. Based on 2018 statistics from UTB, tourists from the regional African markets that visited Uganda by road made up almost 70% of the country’s international arrivals and this increased by 6.1%.
Reports also indicated that the Government plans to train the different Foreign Mission Officials in the East African regional market (Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Burundi) because they will represent the country as foreign marketers.
“Uganda Tourism Board is set to carry out destination training for at least fifty (50) prime expatriate communities staying in neighboring Kenya especially tour operators and Prominent Government officials” pointed the statement. Once implemented, Uganda will become one of the most popular destinations in the African Continent and the World at large.
