3 Days Bwindi Gorilla Tour From Kigali Guide 2026

This 3 Days Bwindi Gorilla trekking safari begins and ends in Kigali, Rwanda. 3 Days Bwindi Gorilla Trekking Safari Starting From Kigali

3 Days Bwindi Gorilla Trekking From Kigali. Do you have limited time and probably travel on a budget yet hope to spend some time with the mountain gorillas of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park? If yes, then this is the ideal safari for you.

The 3-day Bwindi Gorilla trekking safari begins and ends within Kigali, Rwanda and obviously takes a shorter time than if you had started from Kampala (Uganda).

Ideally, Rwanda is the best gorilla destination (for tourists with less time) because it takes just 2 hours to drive from the airport or city to Volcanoes National Park.

But again, it’s the most expensive because a gorilla permit costs $1500 per person, which is more than half the price in Uganda (at only $600) and hence may not favour budget travelers.

The best option, therefore, is to arrive at Kigali International Airport and then drive to Bwindi, and the journey lasts only 4 hours.

Another advantage with Uganda is that it is a home to the majority of the mountain gorillas (more than 400 of the 880 believed to be in the wild, while the rest are distributed across three national parks).

While driving to the park, you will also be rewarded with the jaw-dropping views of the beautiful landscape and rolling hills that characterise the Kigezi highlands, dubbed the “Switzerland of Africa”.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking

After an early morning breakfast, you will be driven to the park headquarters for a pre-tracking briefing about the guidelines of tracking and encountering the critically endangered mountain gorillas.

Before being joined by the ranger and guides who will lead you through the jungles to encounter one of the habituated gorilla families.

With a walking stick and backpack (containing drinking water, a non-flash camera, binoculars, and snacks/a packed lunch).

You will be dropped at the starting point for the adventure and then hike through the dense forest searching for these primates, and it lasts from one hour to several hours depending on their movement and location.

It should be noted that the activity is strenuous and requires participants to be physically fit, but the magical moment of meeting face-to-face with the giant apes will make you forget whatever challenge you went through.

Trekkers are allowed to spend only one hour learning, take photographs and videos before returning to the Lodge for lunch and relaxation.

The afternoon will be for community/village tours to spend some quality time with the local communities living around Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
