3 days Kigali and Nyungwe chimps combine Kigali city tour and chimpanzee trekking in Rwanda. You will begin your trip with the Kigali city tour which includes visiting Gisozi/Kigali genocide memorial, craft shops, Kirimonko market, and other sites.

Nyungwe Forest National Park is a tropical forest-dominated park located in the Southern Province of Rwanda. It was gazetted in 2004 and its land area spreads covering about 1000sq.km. This rainforest supports 13 primate species, and 310 bird species, and the primates include 500 chimpanzees, 400 colobus monkeys, and several floral species.

The list of other primates in Nyungwe Forest includes l’hoest monkeys, Dent’s Mona monkeys, Owl-faced monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, vervet monkeys, red colobus monkeys, pottos, bush babies, baboons, and more. You will enjoy a chimpanzee tracking experience in Nyungwe Forest N/Park and return to Kigali where your trip will end.

Detailed Itinerary

Day one: Kigali tour & Nyungwe National Park

Enjoy a hefty breakfast at the comfort of your hotel in Kigali, after which, begin your city tour. This will include visiting the Gisozi genocide memorial, Kirimonko market, and other tourist sites. From Kigali, you will head off to visit Nyungwe Forest N. Park in Southwestern Rwanda. Driving to Nyungwe takes about 6 hours and you will have a stopover at Butare to visit King’s palace and also lunch, then make a final connection to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day two: Chimpanzee trekking, canopy walk- Nyungwe Forest

After breakfast, leave your lodge for briefing at Uwinka reception. Get to know the set guidelines for chimpanzee tracking and be allocated to an experienced park to accompany you on a 2-4 hours search for chimpanzees. This includes one hour of a close encounter and photography, then you get back to the lodge for relaxation. A variety of other primates will also be spotted on your chimp trek in Nyungwe and with lots of birds.

Relax at the lodge where a delicious lunch will be provided. After, you will be accompanied on a guided canopy walk for 2 hours along the suspended canopy walkway which allows you to see birds, primates, and the scenic tree canopy.

Day three: Nyungwe Forest Park to Kigali

Enjoy the best of your breakfast, after, you will transfer back to Kigali via Butare about 6 hours drive. Arrive at Kigali early where your driver guide will drop you off at the hotel or at the airport for departure in the evening.
