RwandAir Launches Its First Non-Stop Flights To London

RwandAir launches its first non-stop flights to London. RwandAir’s 1st direct flight set off from Kigali International Airport (KGL) and landed at Heathrow on Monday, 7th November. The Airbus A330 landed at Heathrow at 07:17 after spending about 8 hours and 40 minutes.

For the last 5 years, RwandAir has been serving London through Brussels. The introduction of direct flights is an amazing milestone in the country’s carrier. This also replaces the London route via Brussels. The move comes following the travel demand to the United Kingdom.

The direct flights to Heathrow will be conducted 4 times a week which is an increase from RwandAir’s indirect thrice-weekly operation. Flights will depart Kigali every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, & Sunday at 23:35. Arrival time at Heathrow/London will be at 06:20 in the morning.

The return flight leaves London at 20:30 every Monday, Wednesday, Friday & Sunday then arrives at Kigali at 07:00 the next morning. This is an amazing opportunity for visitors with plans to tour Rwanda or in need to experience RwandAir’s state-of-the-art A330. This is ideal, especially for the business or economy class.

RwandAir CEO Yvonne Makolo was quoted saying “we are excited our 1st non-stop flight has landed at London Heathrow. The UK is an incredibly significant market for RwandAir as we know these new non-stop services will prove very popular with our clients, who will highly value shorter journeys and increased connections to onward destinations across Africa.”

Heathrow CEO also added that they were delighted to see RwandAir extend its operation by introducing a new direct route connecting London and Kigali via Heathrow, the UK’s hub airport. Incredibly, the travel demand is increasing again, improving connectivity for passengers and cargo.

The non-stop flights are of great advantage, especially for tours on Rwanda safaris to Volcanoes National Park to enjoy gorilla trekking or those with plans to go game viewing in Akagera National Park. Besides, there are other touristic destinations in Rwanda for nature lovers to explore including Gishwati-Mukura National Park and Nyungwe Forest National Park for chimpanzee tracking or primate encounters.

This is also convenient for customers who may prefer connecting to other destinations in Africa via Kigali such as Uganda which is also a renowned gorilla safari destination or travelers on a trip to the Middle East, and Asia.

Since May 2017, RwandAir has been serving London through Brussels following its introduction of flights from London Gatwick on 26th May 2017. Following 3 successful flights in 2020, Rwanda’s flag carrier switched its operations to London Heathrow, UK’s busiest airport, intending to enhance visitor connectivity.

RwandAir is credited for its excellent on-time performance, safety, and client service delivery. It has been awarded twice for its service including “The best airline staff in Africa”.

Currently, RwandAir operates in 28 destinations across East, Central, West, & Southern Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. It operates from Kigali in Rwanda, East Africa the Land of a Thousand Hills. It has 12 aircraft with an average age of below 6 years.
