Located on Lake Victoria, Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary protects a total of 52 chimpanzees plus other wildlife, birds, and floral species. This tropical island shelters the rescued chimpanzees and they are provided with maximum care, safety, and protection from the Ngamba Island Sanctuary team.

Ngamba Island was founded in 1998, and the goal was to take care of and protect orphaned chimpanzees. The sanctuary accommodates the rescued chimpanzees from poachers and wild encroachers.

Detailed Itinerary – 3 Days Ngamba Island Chimpanzee

Day 1: Transfer to Ngamba Island on Lake Victoria

Meet your safari guide at a hotel/airport, and you will be transferred to Lake Victoria shores where you will take a boat to Ngamba Island. Your journey will cover 45 minutes of cruising on the beautiful Lake Victoria, Africa’s largest freshwater Lake. You will cruise across the Equator line and for early arrival, you can catch up with the morning session when chimpanzees are fed.

The team at Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary will take you through the overall process of how these orphaned chimps have been taken care of, and feed, and you can even engage in some of the activities like feeding the chimpanzees. In the afternoon after you have enjoyed lunch, you will proceed to the local community to interact with the residents or relax at your comfortable lodge/camp- Ngamba Island Camp.

Day 2: Enjoy a chimpanzee viewing & afternoon forest walk

After early breakfast, you will set off for yet another morning chimpanzee watching/viewing at Ngamba Island with a guide. Meet the caretaker as he feeds the chimpanzees, take part and you will also have a deep insight into the daily behaviors of these apes.

Retreat from chimpanzee viewing, settle for a leisurely lunch, relax and you will be set off for a sunset boat cruise on Lake Victoria which lasts for 1 hour. Get a remarkable treat of a beautiful sunset, and stunning skies, marvel at the surrounding scenery of Lake Victoria, etc. Evening relaxation, dinner, and overnight sleep at Ngamba Island Camp.

Day 3: Return from Ngamba Island, transfer to a hotel/airport

Check out of the lodge after a hefty breakfast, and you will be transferred to the mainland. Drive to Entebbe Airport for departure or settle at a hotel as you wait to connect to your next destination in Uganda, this marks the end of 3 days of Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Excursion.
