Kibale Forest National Park is an extensive natural forest park with a land area measuring over 795 sq. km. Kibale lies in the Kabarole district in Western Uganda and supports 13 primate species, 375 bird species, butterflies, and floral species making it one of the biodiverse Uganda safari destinations. Over 1500 chimpanzees live in Kibale, sharing the same habitat with forest elephants, buffaloes, and other primates.

Bigodi wetland Sanctuary is found adjacent to Kibale Forest Park, and it hosts a diversity of primates and other mammals and 138 bird species. A guided nature walk at Bigodi is an incredible opportunity to explore this wetland’s biodiversity on foot thus guaranteeing you a magical encounter. Bigodi is also one of the best spots in Uganda that offer a typical ecotourism experience.

Detailed Itinerary: 3 Days Budget Chimp Trekking and Bigodi Wetland

Day 1: Transfer to Kibale Forest for a budget chimp trekking tour

Kibale National Park sits in Western Uganda, about 6 hour’s drive from Kampala. You will begin your journey to Kibale from Kampala or Entebbe via Mityana-Mubende to Fort Portal city. Settle for a leisurely lunch at Fort Portal city, after which, you will continue to Tooro palace for a cultural visit/Amabere caves or proceed to your lodge in Kibale National Park to check in for relaxation.

Day 2: Kibale chimpanzee tracking & Bigodi wetland expedition

Transfer from your lodge to the Kanyanchu tourism center where you will be briefed about guidelines for chimpanzee trekking. An actual visit to habituated chimpanzee community begins at 8:00 am with a park guide, taking 2-4 hours and it covers one hour for photo taking, exploring more about chimpanzees’ daily behaviors.

Return from trekking with chimpanzees, enjoy a local lunch experience and followed by a Bigodi wetland walk for 2 hours. Along the Bigodi wetland walk trail, you will be exposed to a diversity of primates, birds especially the Great blue turacos, and other mammal species.
