Hiking trails in Buhoma region -Buhoma sector is one of the best gorilla trekking areas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. This is located on the Northern side of Bwindi, Southwestern Uganda. Buhoma is renowned not only for its exhilarating gorilla adventures but also for its rewarding hiking experiences.

At Buhoma, there are amazing nature walking or hiking trails worth conquering on Uganda safari in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The available hiking trails in Buhoma region include the River Ivy, Munyaga, Muzubijiro loop, Waterfall, and Rushura hill trails.

Munyaga River trail

Munyaga river trail is one of the best nature walking trails in the Buhoma sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. This nature hiking trail is the easiest to trek through by hikers and takes nature lovers through the valley lengthways the bizenga river connecting the Munyaga River. It is an incredible trail to enjoy the sight of numerous birds, primates, and floral species.

Hikes through the Munyaga River trail begin from the Buhoma sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park taking you along the River Ivy-Nkuringo trail. You will also be in a position to view the scenic waterfalls plummeting 33m.

The Ivy River trail

The Ivy River trail is 14km and it is considered the longest hiking trail in the Buhoma region of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. It leads guests via the popular Mukempenu which is translated as a place for pigs. Mukempenu is where wild pigs can be spotted. The 8 hours of guided hiking experience through the Ivy River trail comes with remarkable sights of primates such as chimpanzees, and black and white colobus monkeys, as well as other animals like duikers plus colorful butterflies.

Rushura Hill trail

Waterfall trail

The waterfall hiking trail leads hikers to Bwindi’s scenic waterfall. This is 3 hours hiking trail and allows guests to enjoy the sight of butterflies, birds, and floral species.

Muzubijiro loop

Muzubijiro loop is 6km and leads guests via Buhoma hills. It is the best trail for birders and also allows hikers to view the Virunga Volcanoes. At its summits, guests can enjoy a picnic lunch while enjoying the view of the surrounding area.

Best time to go hiking in Buhoma
