Get up close and personal with both the rare mountain gorillas and chimpanzees in the wild on our exclusive 5 Days chimpanzee and gorilla habituation safari. Your combined primate adventure package includes gorilla trekking in Bwindi National Park and chimpanzee tracking in Kibale Forest National Park. Gorilla habituation is only carried out in Rushaga sector in Bwindi, a full –day primate adventure where you will be interacting with semi-habituated gorilla group in the wild.

Kibale Forest National Park boasts of its abundant primates, hosting up to 13 primate species. The park inhabits 1500 chimpanzees, and many other primates (red-tailed monkeys, olive baboons, l’hoest monkeys, blue monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys, galagos, patas monkeys, red colobus monkeys, bush babies, and pottos), 375 species of birds including green breasted pittas.

Brief Itinerary: Chimpanzee And Gorilla Habituation Safari

  • Day 1: Leave Kampala for chimpanzee habituation safari in Kibale & visit Bigodi
  • Day 2: Full day with Kibale chimpanzees in the forest
  • Day 3: Kibale –Bwindi Impenetrable NP for habituation
  • Day 4: Rushaga gorilla habituation
  • Day 5: Drive back to Kampala

Safari in Details:

Day 1: Leave Kampala for chimpanzee habituation safari in Kibale & visit Bigodi

Pick up at the hotel in Kampala by an experienced driver guide from Maranatha Tours & Travel, set off for Kibale Forest National Park. This park is found in Western Uganda, and en-route, you will have a scenic drive through Matiri Forest in Kyenjojo District. When you arrive at Fort Portal, you will settle for lunch and relaxation. From Fort Portal city, head off to your safari lodge to check and after; continue to Bigodi Wetland for an afternoon nature walk.

Day 2: Full day with Kibale chimpanzees in the forest

Wake up early and you will proceed to Kanyanchu for briefing about chimpanzee habituation experience rules. The park guides will be assigned to you and as early as 6:00 am, you will begin your long day chimpanzee exploration in Kibale Forest N/Park. You will go for chimpanzee habituation with packed lunch and enough bottled drinking water.

The whole idea of chimpanzee habituation experience is to allow you observe and explore in depth about chimpanzees, their daily behaviors and taking photos. You will walk back after photography and relax at the safari lodge the rest of the evening.

Day 3: Kibale –Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for habituation

Transfer to Bwindi where you will track mountain gorillas the following day. You will drive through Queen Elizabeth NP, with a chance of spotting the tree climbing lions and today, you will check in at the safari lodge in Rushaga sector.

Day 4: Rushaga gorilla habituation

Gorilla Habituation Experiences

Leave your gorilla safari lodge early for briefing at Rushaga sector; get insight into mountain gorilla habituation guidelines. Meet the park officials and experienced guides will accompany you on the actual habituation adventure. This adventure will include 4 hours of up close and personal with a gorilla family in the wild. You will get back after photo taking and observing how gorillas behave, relax at the gorilla safari lodge that was pre-booked for you.

Day 5: Drive back to Kampala

You will depart your safari lodge at Rushaga and head off to Kampala or Entebbe, and with en-route stopover at Equator for photography. While in Kampala/Entebbe, you will proceed to the hotel for relaxation, dinner and night stay.
