Can I Reschedule My Gorilla Trekking Permit For Bwindi?

Rescheduling a gorilla trekking permit for Bwindi is a great relief for travellers who aren’t able to travel for the planned days due to unavoidable circumstances, yet can still travel later or on a future date. The outbreak of Covid-19 in 2019/2020 saw so many trips cancelled or others pushed to future dates and it is at this point that gorilla permit reschedules became more obvious.

A number of factors are responsible for postponing of gorilla trekking trips and these include sicknesses/illnesses and serious injuries, flight delays, passing of a beloved one or any other factor beyond someone’s control. While rescheduling is the perfect solution to your predicament (sickness, flight delays and losing a loved one), permit availability for the selected date is a very important factor to consider.

How to reschedule your gorilla trekking permits for Bwindi

Rescheduling gorilla permits is a long process and visitors are required to follow all the necessary steps for it to be successful for the future date. First, you will need to contact us via email indicating the reason for changing your gorilla trekking dates to a new date. Later, we go-ahead to submit reschedule forms to Uganda Wildlife Authority after which your gorilla trekking permit will be moved to a new date, depending on availability. Uganda Wildlife Authority has only allowed permit reschedules until the end of 2022. However, a number of conditions are provided for these reschedules to be possible and they include proof of 30% payment/deposit on the gorilla trekking permit.

After approval of your reschedule, a new gorilla trekking date provided and entered in the system, you will be notified and provided new trekking dates for your perusal and records.

Price of gorilla trekking permits for Uganda

Gorilla trekking permits for Uganda go for only $700 per person for the foreign non-resident visitors, $600 for the foreign resident travellers and only Shs. 250,000 for the East African resident visitors. This is a lot of money, which you can’t just lose in case you aren’t able to travel for your gorilla safari.

Gorilla Trekking tours within Uganda are only possible in two outstanding places that include Bwindi Impenetrable and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, both in the southwest of the country. With the highest concentration of these Giant Apes in the wild, gorilla trekking tours still remain second to none here. There are over 21 habituated gorilla groups in this country at the time of writing, meaning only 168 gorilla permits are sold by the Uganda Wildlife Authority.

There is no perfect season to reschedule gorilla trekking permits for Bwindi because timing is influenced by availability. For this reason, it is advisable to reschedule at least 6 months in advance to avoid last-minute disappointment when permits aren’t available at the time needed. Doing it several months before the date you are interested in guarantees of your spot when booking your trip. When it comes to best time to trek the mountain gorillas, dry season still remains undisputable because forest conditions are more favorable for walking.
