Lying in Bushenyi District, Southwestern Uganda, Kalinzu Forest spans over 137sq.km and hosts over 320 chimpanzees. This is a rich natural rainforest and perfect for budget visitors to trek chimpanzees. This 3-day Kalinzu chimpanzee trek tour is designed to allow you immerse yourself into Kalinzu Central Forest Reserve in search for habituated chimpanzee community. About 50 chimpanzee individuals have fully undergone habituation and can be trekked in Kalinzu.

Detailed Itinerary: 3 Days Chimpanzee Trekking in Kalinzu

Day 1: Pick up, travel to Kalinzu Forest

Pick up early in the morning and you will drive out of Kampala heading to the Southwestern direction along Masaka-Mbarara-Bushenyi route. Expect to make a stopover at the Equator crossing around Kayabwe, take as many photos as you can. You will continue on a scenic drive through Mbarara city, view the extensive tea farms in Ishaka as you connect to Bushenyi and you will have a camping experience.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking & forest walk

Depart early morning for briefing on Chimpanzee bark on a guided forest walk to look out for more primates and birds. Dine and retire for a night stay in the set up campsite or safari lodge.

Day 3: Departure

Pick up by your driver and start your journey back to Kampala or Entebbe city. Lunch will be offered en-route and today marks the end of 3-day Kalinzu Forest chimee trekking guidelines and to be assigned a guide. Begin your search for chimpanzee in the Kalinzu Central Forest Reserve (KCFR) 2-3 hours with one hour guaranteed for up close with these distinct primates. You will be spotting some other primates including colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, baboons and different bird species.

Return for lunch and in the afternoon; Chimpanzee trekking.
