Detailed Itinerary 15 Days Best of Uganda safari

Day 1: Airport pickup

In case you arrive at Entebbe International Airport without an entry permit, you will be required to obtain a visa on arrival at Entebbe International Airport.

Our professional guide will be awaiting for dinner and overnight stay at Serena Hotel Kampala (luxury)/Acacia Lodge (mid-range)/The lodge (budget).

Transfer to the Source of the Nile

Have a relaxed breakfast and drive eastwards to Jinja. In case you are a lover of aquatic sports and wildlife, you will have opportunity to participate in white-water rafting along the River Nile at Bujagali Falls.

There are also other activities to participate in, including “quad” biking, boat trips on the Nile, mountain bike cycling and horse riding.

  • Have lunch and then proceed with the safari to Mount Elgon at Sipi Falls.
  • Dinner and overnight stay at Lacam Lodge (mid-range)

Day 3: Hike to Sipi Falls

Today you will hike to Sipi Falls. The falls are characterised by three spectacular falls along river Sipi, flowing down Mount Elgon.

The area is principally panoramic with a view of the Karamoja valley. The activity will take you through the daily life of a typical African village.

  • Have lunch and, in the afternoon, proceed on the journey to Lira, one of the capital towns of the Acholi land, in the direction of Kidepo National Park.
  • Dinner and overnight at Lira Hotel.

Day 4: Transfer to Kidepo Valley National Park

After an early breakfast, the trip proceeds northwards to Kidepo Valley National Park. This park is named after the river traversing this region at the border between Sudan and Kenya.

This is one of the most unspoilt, pure wild places remaining in Africa.

  • Dinner and overnight stay at Nga’Moru Wilderness Camp.

Day 5 – Game drive in Kidepo Valley National Park

Get breakfast with your camera and take drives along the trails of the national park. Expect to discover the region of the River Narus Valley.

The park comprises one of the most thrilling faunas of any parks, with over 80 unique species of mammals, including cheetah, ostrich, striped hyena and caracal.

Visits to the local Karimojong homestead or “manyattas” can be organised.

Day 6 – Transfer from Kidepo to Kitgum

After breakfast, last game drive or activity in Kidepo National Park. Proceed in the direction of Murchison Falls National Park, the biggest national park of Uganda.

The distance is long; therefore, another stopover is needed in between.

  • Lunch en route.
  • Arrive in the afternoon in Kitgum; have dinner and stay overnight at Bomah Hotel.

Day 7 – Kitgum to Murchison Falls National Park

Have breakfast, then transfer to Murchison Falls National Park with lunch en route in Gulu. Proceed to the park, entering through the northern gate of the park.

Day 8 – Game Drive & Boat cruise in Murchison Falls National Park

Have breakfast, and then embark on an early morning game drive to discover the savannah on the northern bank of the Nile.

Expect to see wildlife including lions, elephants, buffalos, giraffes, waterbucks, oribis, bushbucks, spotted hyenas and leopards. Back to the lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon, take another mesmerising safari by boat along the superb river Nile to the base of the Murchison Falls.

This cruise is so marvellous as you come across a high concentration of wildlife in the bank of the river Nile, including hippos and many crocodiles, and a number of bird species.

Dinner and overnight stay at Paara Safari Lodge (luxury)/Pakuba Lodge (midrange)/Sambiya River Lodge (budget).

Day 9 – Albertine Rift Valley and Fort Portal

After breakfast you leave the national park heading southwest along the Lake Albert and Rift Valley escarpment with breathtaking panoramic scenery.

Pass via Hoima, the capital town of the Bunyoro kingdom, one of the oldest in Uganda. Stop over for a cup of coffee and lunch en route.

Drive to Fort Portal, the capital town of the Toro kingdom, which lies in the shadow of the Rwenzori Mountains, the biggest mountain range in Africa.

Day 10 – Transfer from Kibale National Park to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Today go for a nature walk in Kibale Forest National Park for experiencing the rain tropical forest, birding and especially encountering the chimpanzees in their natural environment.

Other primates you might see include black and white colobus, red-tailed monkeys and velvet monkeys.

After lunch, the journey through Uganda proceeds to the “pearl” of the national parks, Queen Elizabeth, which lies between Lake George on the east, Lake Edward on the west and the Rwenzori Mountains on the north.

Day 11 – Game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park

Have a cup of coffee and go for an early morning game drive. Experience along the tracks of the national park, on the northern side towards Lake George and Kasenyi village.

You might see lions, elephants, buffaloes, spotted hyenas, waterbucks, and Ugandan kobs; perhaps the leopard, though, is shy and rare to be seen.

In the afternoon, take the most exciting safari by boat from Mweya Peninsula along Kazinga Channel, one of the most popular sites in Uganda for its concentration of wildlife, bird life and opportunities for good photographs.

Moreover, you will see plenty of hippos, buffaloes and elephants while drinking from the channel. Go for another short game drive in the evening.

Day 12 – Transfer from Queen Elizabeth to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

After breakfast the exploration of the park continues in the southern sector of Queen Elizabeth, Ishasha. Take a game drive in search for the “tree-climbing lions”, which are seen during the hot hours of the day as they lie resting on top of fig trees.

See also herds of buffaloes, elephants, topi, antelopes and more. Proceed to where you find the rain tropical forests, which are the natural habitat for the endangered mountain gorillas.

In the morning you enter the rain-soaked tropical forest of Bwindi for the gorilla safari.

The activity starts at 8am, and you will follow the ranger guides in a group of a maximum of 8 people as you search for the habituated family of mountain gorillas, which was allocated according to the permits.

Spend one hour observing the primates and their behaviours while taking photographs. Ensure you take the packed lunch and water with you in the bag and for this you might need the support of available porters.

Day 14 – Transfer from Lake Bunyonyi – Lake Mburo National Park

After breakfast, enjoy one of the most extraordinary wildlife and birding experiences by boat as you cross Lake Bunyonyi. The forested green islands on the lake are home to different species of endemic birds which the guide will help you to spot.

Lunch in Kabale in the Kigezi region, the so-called “Switzerland of Africa”, characterised by terraced cultivated hills. The inhabitants are the Bakiga, and you can visit the local Bakiga cultural museum. I

n the afternoon proceed to Lake Mburo National Park, the smallest of the Ugandan national parks.

As you enter, go for a game drive in search of the beautiful impalas, elands, topis and many antelopes, buffaloes and zebras.

Dinner and overnight stay at Mihingo Lodge (luxury)/Arcadia Cottages (mid-range)/Eagle Nest (budget).

Day 14: Transfer back to Entebbe

After the last game drive in the park, the journey ends back to Entebbe. Lunch en route. Reserved for departure from Entebbe International Airport.

Day 15: Birding in Entebbe and Airport transfer in the evening

After your breakfast, you will be transferred to Lutembe Bay in Entebbe for birdwatching.

Return to the lodge for lunch before being transferred to Entebbe International Airport for your flight back home. That will be the end of our safari.
