This itinerary focuses on bird watching excursion in 2 key areas –Mabamba wetland and Entebbe botanical gardens.

At Mabamba wetland, the main focus will be searching for the elusive shoebill stork and other aquatic species. Mabamba swamp is a scenic wetland found on the Northern shores of Lake Victoria, 12 km west of Entebbe city. This is a captivating birding location with more than 300 species of birds.

Entebbe botanical gardens straddle between the city and Lake Victoria and also most ideal spot for birding excursions. These cover over 40 ha on Lake Victoria shoreline and they are as old as 1898.

Detailed Itinerary: 2 Days Uganda birding Safari

Day 1: Birding excursion at Botanical Gardens

Early in the morning, you will meet your tour leader and have a quick briefing about your long day bird watching excursion. After, begin your journey to Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre (UWEC) home to more than 170 bird species. At UWEC, expect to sight birds such as kingfishers, Northern masked weavers, sunbirds, orange weavers, and more.

From UWEC, proceed to the botanical gardens for an afternoon birding safari experience. A myriad of birds will be spotted at the botanical gardens including the red chested sunbird, striated herons, Senegal coucal, ruppell’s long-tailed sterling, black and white casqued hornbill, red-billed fire finch, gull-bill tern, pygmy kingfishers, black headed gonoleks, great reed warblers, Tooro olive green, hooded vulture, little stint and more. After the long afternoon birding tour at the Entebbe botanical gardens, return to your hotel for relaxation and overnight stay.

Day 2: Mabamba wetland birding & depart

After breakfast, you will set off for your half day birding excursion on Mabamba wetland nearby Lake Victoria. Variety of bird species will be identified on Mabamba swamp birding tour and include white spotted fluff tails, Western banded snake eagle, papyrus gonoleks, purple gallinule, goliath herons, pallid harriers, white winged warblers, red cap, white shouldered tit, rufous bellied herons, Ross’s turacos, swamp flycatchers, pint-tailed whydah, sand martin,
