With 4 days Bwindi gorillas from Kigali, you stand a chance to encounter mountain gorillas twice while in their natural habitat. This remarkable Uganda gorilla safari introduces you into the verdant rain-forest of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for an unforgettable gorilla trekking experience.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is one of the smallest forest parks in Uganda, located in the Southwestern side of the Country – 8 to 9 hours’ drive from Kampala capital. From Kigali, you will spend between 4 and 5 hours to drive to Bwindi via border area of Katuna or Chanika. This makes this short gorilla safari one of the best choices for those of you with limited time but need to have a double encounter with mountain gorillas in Bwindi.

Bwindi’s establishment dates back to 1991 when it was designated as a National Park in Uganda and sits on the land area of 321sq.kms. It is a beautiful Uganda safari park with 4 main gorilla trekking regions – Ruhija, Buhoma, Rushaga and Nkuringo. These are the major areas where the park’s 459 mountain gorillas all live and 20 habituated gorilla families.

Detailed itinerary of 4 days Bwindi gorillas from Kigali

Day 1: Kigali-Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, set off for your short Uganda gorilla safari to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in the Southwestern side of the country. Driving period covered will be 4-5 hours in a 4×4 safari vehicle and comes with breathtaking view of the countryside and rolling hills of Rwanda. Crossover to Bwindi via Chanika or Katuna border – Katuna connects to Kabale and Chanika connects easily to Kisoro district/town.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking – Bwindi NP

Begin your special day with briefing at Bwindi offices where you will get to know the set gorilla trekking guidelines. Allocation of gorilla groups will also be done during the briefing session in the morning and after, you will be led into the forest by park guide to track mountain gorillas. At 8:00am, expect to begin your actual trek also likely to last for 2-6 hours but covers one hour with family of gorillas.

Photography and exploring the gorilla habits, traditions, etc will be had during the one hour of magical encounter. After the one hour, return to the park offices to be provided with gorilla trekking certificates.

Day 3: Full day Gorilla trekking/Gorilla habituation experience – Bwindi

Enjoy breakfast, then assemble once again at the park offices for briefing and today, there are many options – first you can go normal gorilla trekking or full day gorilla habituation experience in Rushaga sector. Unlike the usual gorilla treks, during gorilla habituation, you will have 4 hours with mountain gorillas exploring in depth about their behaviors, photo taking and a lot more.

In the evening, the optional activities include Batwa pygmy community walk, nature walk/forest walk in any of the trails in Bwindi. Or you may decide to relax at the lodge, dine and later have an overnight stay.

Day 4: Bwindi – Kigali (departure)

After a tasty cup of tea or coffee, you will leave for Kigali. At Kigali, you will be part of the educative city tour to visit genocide sites such as Kigali genocide site, craft shops and local markets. This will mark the end of 4 days Bwindi gorillas from Kigali vacation.
