Feel at the top of the world on Mount Elgon

Located in the Far East of Uganda in a Mbale district, mountain Elgon is one of the hilarious places in the country where a visitor can experience a breathtaking moment. Blessed with numerous caves each with its own historical background, the mountain gives the best atmosphere for finding about the true cultural background of the Bagisu people who stay around and on its slopes. With hiking safaris to Uganda becoming more popular these days compared the past, you can’t talk about best sites for the activity and you leave out mountain Elgon. Actually, some tourists prefer this mountain to others because of the additional tourism activities one enjoys after an interesting hike like cultural walks, nature walks, bird watching and many more. Sipi falls on the mountain are stunning which are definitely worth to view.

Mount Elgon has the largest base in Africa and this dormant volcano has turned out to be one of the leading destinations in the country. A climb to Wagagi (the highest peak) is a lifetime experience and one gets at the top, he/she can have a splendid wider view of Uganda. Since the mountain is on the border of Uganda and Kenya, a visitor can have a chance of having a view of kenya’s eye-catching green-covered highlands and vegetations. With little known about this adventurous mountain, the local people who stay around say that there is more than tourism about it and according to them, the mountain is attached to their culture as their ancestors used it as a weapon in times of war. They constructed caves which were used as hiding places away from the enemies during times of war. Some even stayed in the caves as their permanent home. It is this reason why the Bagisu ancestors decided to name it “Mt. Masaba”.

Depending on the visitor’s wish, a hiking safari to mountain Elgon can be adjusted and more adventurous activities can be included. It can also be extended to Kenya and actually some visitors find it better to first have a hike at the mountain before proceeding to Kenya for their trip.
