On this special gorilla tracking safari itinerary, expect to explore at least 2 different habituated mountain gorilla families in Volcanoes National Park Ruhengeri.
Volcanoes National Park is situated in Northwestern Rwanda and holds up to 12 habituated gorilla groups, each to be visited by a maximum of 8 visitors per day.
On actual gorilla trekking, there will be an experienced park guide to lead you. This trip itinerary also combines cultural village tours, especially at Iby’Iwacu Village and Kigali city tour where you will pay a visit to UNESCO Site – Kigali genocide site. The entire safari will begin and end in Kigali, Rwanda.

Detailed Itinerary – 4 Days Rwanda Gorilla Tracking Safari:
Day 1: Pick up at the hotel in Kigali, travel by road up to Volcanoes National Park.
A hefty cup of tea/coffee be enjoyed at your respective hotels in Kigali capital. After, meet your experienced driver guide in Rwanda ready to embark on a memorable Kigali city tour. On this short city tour, expect to pay a visit to sites like Kigali genocide site –the burial site where over 250,000 victims of the historic Rwandan genocide were laid to rest.
You will also pay a visit to other close historical sites or Kimironko market for you to purchase some fresh fruits. After the short Kigali city excursion, you will settle for a leisurely lunch and also get some refreshments in one of the best restaurants in Kigali city.
After lunch, board your 4×4 safari car and head off to Ruhengeri, Northwestern Rwanda to check in at the lodge inside or nearby Volcanoes NP.

Day 2: Enjoy the first guided gorilla trekking adventure & relax at the lodge.
Get up early from your comfortable bed and start preparing for the long day excursion. Before you join other guests for briefing, you will be provided breakfast. The briefing will follow and this will be done at Kinigi where you will meet Volcanoes National Park official who will take you through the different guidelines/regulations for gorilla trekking.
At 8: 00am, the park guide will lead you via the lush forest in search of the gorilla family assigned to you. The trek may last for 2 to 6 hours but this includes an hour for photography and for you to closely observe how mountain gorillas behave in their natural habitat. After the trek, you will get back and enjoy the rest of the evening at your safari lodge.

Day 3: Embark on the second gorilla tracking & Village tours.
After breakfast, gather at Kinigi for another briefing session and allocation of gorilla families. The park guide will be assigned to lead you on a search for the habituated gorilla group in Volcanoes National Park. Once you have located these apes, enjoy a maximum of an hour face-to-face with them and also take photos.
Return from the gorilla trek and you will have a relaxed stay at the lodge. Late in the afternoon, you will have a thrilling cultural experience at Iby’Iwacu Village. The cultural village tour allows you interact with the local residents, learn their traditions, cultures and get entertained by their distinct dances and music performance.
