Busoga crowns a new Kyabazinga,King William Nadiope

After a long period of about six years without a King, Busoga, one of the largest ethnic tribes in Uganda finally crowned a new King. This came after the elders of the kingdom sat late last month and elected William Nadiope as the new king of Busoga a decision which was not welcomed by a few group of Basoga especially those from Kaliro where the late Kyabazinga came from. These people wanted the son of late King Waako Muloki to become the successor to the throne and this was rejected by the Kingdom elders who argued that according to the cultural settings of Busoga, each chiefdom is supposed to rule once.

Busoga is divided into 4 chiefdoms each headed with a leader and it’s from these 4 leaders that an overall King is chosen. The late Kyabazinga, Waako Muloki was from Bulamoji chiefdom and therefore, his son could not become his successor as wished by the local people from the area. According the cultural laws that govern Busoga, once one chiefdom has ruled, the next King is chosen from another chiefdom and this time he was to be chosen from Bugabula chiefdom. This is the reason why Prince William Nadiope from Bugabula was crowned the new Kyabazinga of Busoga who will lead the Kingdom to prosperity. The coronation took place last Saturday in Jinja district and the function was honored by very many delegates from different countries and also hose from Uganda. Some tourists who were on their safari to Uganda had a chance of attending the function and got a chance of witnessing some cultural practices which are hard to find.

Uganda has over 45 ethnic groups each with its own King making the country an ideal destination for tourists interested in knowing or exploring more about the rich culture that truly portrays how an African came into existence and how he has managed to survive. Today, the country receives very many visitors on a daily basis and 155 of these come specifically to explore more about Uganda’s culture. They visit various kingdoms in the country moving through different villages as they try to find out how the local people of Uganda depend on nature for survival and how they are grouped into tribes.

It is therefore a wise idea for someone who wants to know more about African culture to visit Uganda because there are people of different cultural backgrounds with different norms and beliefs.
