Developed Itinerary 8 Days Uganda Birding Tour

Day 1: Arrival and Birding at Botanical Gardens in Entebbe
On your arrival, you will be welcomed by your driver/guide who will transfer you to the hotel. If time allows, bird at Botanical gardens in Entebbe, which hosts a range of birds from Lake Victoria specials including the grey Kestrel, golden –backed weaver, slender –billed and forest birds including the splendid Ross’s, the Great blue Turacco, palm Nut vulture, African Grey parrot and  Whilst bat Hawk.

Day 2: Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Have breakfast at the hotel  at depart from Kampala and head to South west across  Uganda, through Mbarara tow, the home of the impressive long horn Ankole  cattle, royal drum makers stand on the Equator, bargain at the roadside markets. Descend to Queen Elizabeth National Park, through the Kabatoro gate keeping an eye out for  wildlife within the park. Check in the to your booked accommodation on arrival.

Day 3: Whole day birding in Queen Elizabeth National park

You will spend the whole day birding in Queen Elizabeth National Park. Expect to see a number of bird species including black coucal, compact weaver, herons, storks, plovers, little gribe, scaly breasted illadopsis, snowy- headed, robin-chat, chestnut wattle –eye, red throated sun brid, black headed, African fin foot, pell’s fishing owl, white winged warbler, papyrus warbler, waterfowl ,Palm-nut vulture, African white-backed vulture, African cake, Black-bellied bustard, crowned plover and Hooded Vulture, lesser Flamingos, Red-capped lark, Raptors, Dierderik Cuckoo and Wahlberg’s.

Day 4: Queen Elizabeth National Park

After a cup of tea, set out for a morning drive in the park to catch up with the mammals like Elephant, Buffaloes, Bush bucks, Kobs, warthogs, Waterbucks, and if lucky you may spot some lions, Hyena. Afternoon take a boat ride on Kazinga Channel viewing a number of game and birds such as  Green-backed Heron, Storks like Pelicans, African Spoonbill, African White-backed Vulture, Martial Eagle, Common Button Quail, African Jacana, Bateleur, Black-bellied Bustard, Black-winged Stilt, African Crake, Temminck’s Courser among others.

Day 5: Transfer for Kibale Forest National Park

Today, you transfer from Queen Elizabeth National park to Kibale forest National Park. En route  Fort Portal town for lunch. Kibale National park covers an area of approximately 795 kilometers and its acknowledged to have one of Uganda’s most  beautiful tropical forest. The park is a habitat to many wildlife  including  habituated  chimpanzees.

It occupies the northern as well as the central part of the park, where the  northern part has a  peak of about 1590m above sea level.The northern part is also well known as the wettest area with an annual rainfall of about 1700mm.The rainy months include March-May as well as September-November. It has an average temperature of about 14-27oc and temperatures are high in the south because of  the landscape falls into the scorching rift valley floor.

Day 6: Whole day birding in Kibale forest National Park

Today whole day birding around  Kanyanchu, look out for African Emerald Cuckoo, Narina Trogon, Black-billed Turaco, Green-breasted Pitta and other species like Yellow-billed Barbet, Blue-shouldered Robin-chat, Sabine’s Spinetail, Chestnut Wattle eye and Narrow-tailed Starling among others. You may spot primates like Red Colobus, Black and white Colobus, Grey-cheeked Mangabey, Olive Baboon, Red-tailed Monkey, L’Hoest’s Monkey among others.

Day 7: Birding at Bigodi Wetland

You will spend the whole day biding in Magombe swamp in Bigodi wetland Sanctuary. Expect to see a number of bird species including the swamp flycatcher, yellow bill, brown eared woodpecker, grey parrot, bronze sun bird, black-crowned waxbill and blue throated roller, Hairy- breasted barbet, yellow-billed Barbet, western Nicator, brown-backed scrub-robin, Black white shrike-flycather, Brown-throated wattle-eye, Brown-crowned Tchagra, Bocage’s bush-shrike, Black Bishop and the white-tailed Ant thrush Yellow –spotted Barbet, western Nicator, Black Bishop-breasted Negro finch and Grey-winged Robin-chat.

Day 8: Kibale National Park- Kampala
Today, you will travel back to Kampala then Entebbe for your international flight.
