A double gorilla trek in Uganda means you will be visiting two habituated gorilla families or visit the same gorilla group twice. All the two gorilla treks will be enjoyed with the lead of an experienced park ranger guide from Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is found in Southwestern Uganda and is where a total of about 459 mountain gorillas all live. Within Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, there are over 22 habituated gorilla groups that are open for gorilla tourism/adventures. These gorilla families are open for gorilla trekking in the four gorilla sectors; Ruhija, Rushaga, Nkuringo and Buhoma.

The 4 days Uganda gorilla trekking safari takes only 3 nights and 4 days of you exploring the country’s lush Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. This trip plan will begin and end in Kampala.

Detailed Itinerary – 4 days Uganda gorilla trekking safari:

Day 1: Pick up from the hotel in Kampala and transfer by road to Bwindi.

After you have prepared yourself, you will be served a tasty cup of tea or coffee and after, get to meet our company representative. Before you start your journey, you will be briefed on what this short gorilla safari is all about. After, board your 4WD and drive via Masaka-Mbarara –Kabale route.

Your road trip to Bwindi National Park takes about 8-9 hours and en-route, the Equator crossing should be a must-stopover point for you to take pictures and also have some stretching.  From the Equator crossing, you will be transferred to Igongo Cultural Centre where lunch will be provided to you.

After lunch, you will be driven up to Bwindi National Park on a scenic drive in a 4×4 safari vehicle. Get to the park early and check in your accommodation where you will have great time to relax, interact with your colleagues, dine and then have a night stay.

Day 2: Enjoy the first gorilla trekking.

After an early morning preparation, settle for breakfast still at the lodge. Later, you will leave the lodge with a pack of lunch provided from the lodge. At Ruhija, you will get briefing about gorilla trekking regulations. The park official present will allocate a gorilla family to you and Ruhija sector alone has habituated gorilla families like Mukiza, Oruzongo, Kyaguriro, and Bitukura.

Each of the gorilla families in Ruhija will be trekked by a maximum of 8 (eight) and you will be led by an experienced park ranger guide. The day trek with Ruhija gorillas is generally unpredictable and will run for 2-6 hours or even less depending on the location of gorillas or your walking speed among other factors.

Once you have come across a family of Ruhija mountain gorillas, you will have a maximum of an hour to enjoy a face-to-face encounter with these apes. During this period, your camera should be ready for photography and after, you will begin walking back to the briefing point where the park official will be giving you a gorilla trekking certificate.

After obtaining your gorilla trekking certificate, you will head to the lodge for relaxation.

Day 3: Experience the best of your second gorilla trekking adventure.

Enjoy an early morning cup of tea or coffee, you will be heading off to Ruhija for briefing about gorilla trekking guidelines. Today marks the second day for you to explore mountain gorillas in the wild and you will either go to trek the previous gorilla family or be assigned to a new gorilla family in Ruhija sector.

At around 8:00am, you will again be led by the park ranger guide on a search for gorillas. The length of the trek is generally unpredictable but expect to take 2-6 hours in the jungles as you search for mountain gorillas.

After the long walk and finally, you have come across a family of mountain gorillas, expect to spend an hour for up close and personal encounter with these large apes while in their natural habitat. Use this period to take as many pictures as you can and after, you will be led back to where your adventure began from then have a relaxed evening at the lodge.

Day 4: Departure from Bwindi to Kampala/Entebbe.

Set off from your respective lodges after you have had a delicious breakfast and also checked out. You will take the same route that you used on day one and en-route, you have lunch at the hotel in Mbarara/Igongo cultural centre then continue to Kayabwe to take pictures at the equator crossing.

After that moment at the Equator, proceed to Kampala or Entebbe city.
