1 Day rhino trekking tour to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary involves you walking to see rhinos in the wild at a close range at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary which is set in Nakasongola district, northwestern Uganda just a few kilometers from the route to Gulu. It takes you about 2 to 3 hours (that is 176ms) to drive from Kampala capital city to this sanctuary.

Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary covers an area of about 70sq.km comprising of savanna and unique vegetation. It is by far the only in the whole of Uganda where you can trek to see rhinos in their natural habitat.

On your 1 Day rhino trekking tour to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, you won’t only see the white rhinos but also other unique creatures including among others antelopes (Oribis, bushbucks, reedbucks), monkeys and several bird species. You will begin and end your tour in Kampala or Entebbe which is the capital city of Uganda.

Details of your 1 Day rhino trekking tour

Start your day with a hot cup of tea or coffee at a hotel of your preference in Kampala and at 7:00 am, you will be picked up by your driver-guide. Drive from Kampala capital city toward the north via Luweero and then branch off from Nakitoma Trading Center to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary.

Your journey will cover about 2-3 hours and once you arrive at the sanctuary, you will be briefed by ranger guide on how you should conduct yourself while in the natural habitat with rhinos and please do not miss out the unique history of the sanctuary.

You will be accompanied by an experienced ranger guide and depending on where the rhinos are located; your driver-guide will drop you off to a near the starting point prior embarking on actual rhino trek which takes about 2-3 hours. After you have found these endangered species, you have an hour with them. Also, expect to spot out other wildlife and bird species. Later, you will get back to Kabalega diners for you to have lunch and after, you will drive back to Kampala or Entebbe which marks the end of your 1-day rhino trekking tour.

Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is in northwestern Uganda, about 2-3 hours’ drive from Kampala in a good and comfortable 4 wheel drive safari vehicle. You drive from Entebbe or Kampala through Luweero and at Nakitoma trading center you branch off to the sanctuary just a few kilometers from the main road.
