What to Bring for Gorilla Trekking in Uganda

Gorilla trekking in Uganda is a wonderful experience that one should not miss in his lifetime experience; it allows you to get up close to these gentle giants of the jungle in their natural habitat. Gorilla trekking in Uganda is found in southwestern Uganda in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, these are the only Parks in Uganda where gorilla trekking takes place. After having paid for your Gorilla permit, Gorilla tour, accommodation, and transport. As the days draw nearer to your gorilla tour in Uganda you have to make sure to know what to bring so that you pack them earlier. The right gear for gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is the same for both Uganda National Parks.

Hiking/Walking Boots

This is one of the most essential items that should be packed before you set off from your origin of stay, due to the nature of the forest, the altitude, and terrain; one needs lightweight hiking boots for this activity both in Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

Garden Gloves

Hiking/walking in the jungle of gentle apes, you need to wear gloves to avoid getting scratched by insects and vegetation, in time it gets slippery you need to hold on to something just in case.

Rain Jacket

We always recommend having a rain jacket on hand to avoid getting wet; Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park is a tropical rain forest where rain is received throughout the whole year and in Mgahinga National Park. This explains that you need a rain jacket in order to protect yourself from rain.

Long-Sleeved Shirts or Blouses and pants:

Long-Sleeved Shirts or Blouses help you to cover your skin during the jungle trek and remember to tuck them into your trousers to avoid insects entering.

Cameras and extra batteries

Having your camera helps you remember your memorable experience on your gorilla safari, make sure you have extra batteries well charged but remember to switch off your flash while taking gorilla photographs.

Hat and sunglasses:

Protection against the sun is extremely important. Wearing a hat and sunglasses will help protect you from the direct sun as well as prevent any bits of vegetation or insects from hitting the face and eyes.

Insect repellent:

Being Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park and Mgahinga National Park in Uganda is home to dangerous insects such as mosquitoes and tsetse flies. To prevent insect bites while on your trek, apply insect repellent cream or spray.

Packed lunch and energy-giving snacks

Before you leave your hotel either in Bwindi or Mgahinga National Park, don’t forget to pack your lunch and energy-giving snacks this will helps you in extra energy since you will take 4-6 hours to circumnavigate the gorillas and drinking water will also be required in the jungle of giants. Energy giving can be bought in Uganda

Having packed all the right gear, you are now welcomed in the environment of mountain gorillas which is your way to have the experience of a lifetime while gorilla trekking through the forests of Uganda.
