About the park
The famous Rwenzori National park lies in Western Uganda on the Congolese border with snow-covered, equatorial peaks. The park occupies about 1,000 km2 which is about 386 square miles in size. The peaks raise to the height of 5110m and lower slopes blanketed in moorland and rich montane forest. Most of the park is accessible to hikers with magnificent scenery and 19 Albertine Rift endemics, amongst them Rwenzori Turaco and Shelley’s Crimsonwing, would be ample reward for the intrepid, backpacking birder.
Access of the park
By road
The park can be accessed from Kampala via Mbarara to Kasese and from Kampala through Fort portal about 75 km south on the Fort Portal/Kasese road. From Kasese the park lies about 25 km.
By air
By air, there are planes available from Entebbe/Kampala to Kasese.

Accommodation in the park
Ruboni Community Camp
Ruboni community Camp is one of the oldest accommodation in Nyakalenjina nest to the gate to the Rwenzori mountains national park. The community camp is situated in the Rwenzori foothills. There is a peaceful farming village of Ruboni and offers guests the chance to enjoy the gorgeous mountain views from the comfort of their rooms surrounded by colorful tropical gardens.
Rwenzori Turaco View Camp
The Rwenzori Turaco View Camp is well stocked with a restaurant, bar, three room’s accommodation in bandas and the camping site.

– The camp has a restaurant serving typical Ugandan and continental dishes
– There balcony/ Veranda offers views with mountain views
– There are also private rooms with mosquito nets
– There is solar powered lighting
– Small camping area which is available in the village
– There are private bathrooms with options of composting toilets and flash toilets
– There are hot overhead showers in the camp
– In the bandas, there is water which runs from a spring
Room description
The guests can choose between the campsite, safari tents.The rooms have two single beds and the bandas contain two double beds.

– Hill climb walk mountain views of Margarita peak, Africa’s 3rd highest mountain
– There is nature walk in the forest bordering the UNESCO world heritage National Park
– Bird watching can also be carried in the park including the Rwenzori Turacos, sunbirds and colorful bee eaters.
– There are also traditional performances shown to you by the local youth group.
