Detailed Itinerary – 5 Days Rwanda Gorilla & Chimp Safari:

Day 1: Pick up at Kigali & transfer by road to Nyungwe.

Begin the day with a hefty breakfast and today, there will be many options to choose from to explore the bustling Kigali capital. Due to limited time, the best of your Kigali city tour will include visit Kigali/Gisozi genocide memorial, craft villages, Kimironko market and more.

After the memorable 2 hours in Kigali, drive out of the city to Nyungwe Forest National Park in Southwestern Rwanda.

It will be a long road trip but interestingly, you will have a stopover visit at the Kings Palace and Ethnographic museum in Butare/Huye. Lunch be enjoyed around Butare and drive up the park to check in at your accommodation facility.

Day 2: Enjoy the best of Nyungwe chimpanzee trek & canopy walk.

Get to Uwinka/Cyamudongo reception for briefing about chimpanzee tracking regulations. It will be during briefing session when the park guides will be allocated to lead you on a long day search for Nyungwe chimpanzees.

Today’s trek will be done on already habituated chimpanzee community and expect to spend 2-5 hours in the jungles with a guarantee of an hour for up close and personal encounter with chimps in the wild. Other species for you to expect to see in addition to chimps include the red colobus monkeys, colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys and olive baboons, etc.

You will be led back to where your adventure began from and proceed to have lunch at the lodge. After lunch and relaxation, catch up with an afternoon canopy walk in Nyungwe. The canopy walkway is 50m high from the ground and extends 200m.

Day 3: Transfer by Road to Volcanoes National Park in Ruhengeri.

Early in the morning, have a delicious breakfast at the lodge and after, you will be transferred to Volcanoes National Park. En-route to Volcanoes Park, you will have the best views of Lake Kivu. On arrival at Volcanoes National Park, check in at the lodge for you have a leisurely moment, dine and have a night stay.

Day 4: Experience Rwanda’s best gorilla trekking & cultural tour to Iby’Iwacu Village.

After your tasty cup of tea/coffee, leave your accommodation for briefing about gorilla trekking regulations. The park official will allocate each gorilla family to a group comprising of 8 visitors.

The trek to see gorillas begins after the park guides have been assigned to you and will go for 2-6 hours. You will spend an hour face-to-face with a family of mountain gorillas, observe how they behave, their feeding habits, nesting and so much more.

In the afternoon, embark on unforgettable cultural experience in Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village. Get to interact with locals, learn about their unique traditions, cultures and other practices.

Day 5: Departure.
